March 1, 2013 HAIL, HAIL! TOPSAIL!

What a gorgeous park http://www.floridastateparks.org/TopsailHill/!  WOW!  It's hard to believe that this is a state park. Now, don't get me wrong.  We love state parks. Usually, they are a bit more rustic than this one. Apparently, it used to be a private resort but the state of Florida purchased it.  It's in a great location, too - just outside of Destin & Santa Rosa beach.  The sites are   spacious with beautiful landscaping and trees, including Palm trees.  Oh yes.....palm trees.  Palm trees are the true sign that we have made it safely to Florida.

We highly recommend this park.  The only thing negative would be their limited WIFI connection and lack of goods in the camp store.  Although, you are pretty close to Walmart for essentials.  We paid $42 per night before tax for a site with full hook ups.  Our site #143 was spacious and beautiful.  Although, I do not think that there is a bad spot in this park.  Every site is on a cement pad with a picnic table, lamp light, beautiful landscaping with beautiful tropical plants and trees.

Temps were a little chilly the first day, so decided to go out for a bite to eat. We were craving seafood, so decided to go to Pompano Joe's for dinner. The menu was pretty pricey for a very casual place like this.  So, we settled on a hamburger for Dave and Cajun Chicken salad for me.  We would not recommend either one.  Dave's burger was overdone and my salad was iceberg lettuce on a greasy shell with very little chicken.  We agreed that we made the best decision not eating seafood here.  There are so many other places that will serve up a better fare for less cost.  For us, Pompano Joe's is more about the atmosphere and eating right on the beach.  Maybe....if we go again, we will have some appetizers and a couple of fruity drinks.  We'll see.
